Always Moody?

Here's How To Get Out Of a Bad Mood

Posted in 22/01/31

Seriously, why am I always in a bad mood? People ask.

But the thing is, we all get moody and sometimes for no apparent reason!

The worst part is that a bad mood can distract us from all our priorities. When you feel upset or sad, it's hard to focus on work, and you feel fed up and exhausted. Sometimes it takes hours and hours to get over this and costs some worthy & productive hours.

I know this has happened to many of us, and it's normal.

The concept of mood is often described as a “temporary state of mind or feeling”. You see, the definition itself says its "temporary", but often, it's hard to get over. According to studies, a mood can be caused by our hormones, brain chemicals, our psychology, and our environment.

A good mood is always great and fuels a lot of energy for the day. But a bad mood is always the opposite.  It can drag us through the same distressing feelings over and over again. Feelings of grouchy, testy, cranky, sad, gloomy are some examples of a bad mood, and we all have been there.

Sometimes the physical or environmental causes make us feel bad. For example, when you are sick, it is natural to feel sad and lonely due to physical pain. But there are instances we feel angry, grumpy, or lifeless for totally uncontrollable external causes like the behavior of someone else or when things not going as expected at work. These are the scenarios we must quickly realize.

How to snap out of a bad mood?

First, you must acknowledge this status and figure out the cause for it. Then, work towards changing this status quo. A hint of laughter, a two-minute chat with a close friend, a splash of fresh air, or a simple cup of tea could change our chemistry instantly with a mood swing.

Here are some proven ways people follow to change their mood.

  • Take a minute for yourself: walk away from your desk if you have to, we understand!

  • Let things go: acceptance is the first step to help you to re-build yourself.
